Romanshorn is in the Canton of Thurgau, which officially has no statutory tourist tax (Kurtaxe). Instead, participating Thurgau Tourism members may charge a voluntary TourismBeitragTG: CHF 2.50 per person per night for hotels, and CHF 1.50 per person per night for campsites, youth hostels, holiday apartments and bed-and-breakfasts. It is shown separately on the guest bill, bears 3.8% VAT, and is collected and administered by the accommodation business. Therefore, no statutory tourist-tax rate applies.
Children up to 16 years are exempt from the TourismBeitragTG. All other overnight guests are charged regardless of the purpose of their stay and the type of accommodation, where a participating accommodation business applies the voluntary contribution.
Short-term rentals are covered only when the accommodation provider participates in Thurgau Tourism and has agreed to apply the voluntary TourismBeitragTG. Holiday apartments and bed-and-breakfasts are listed at CHF 1.50 per person per night; children up to 16 years are exempt. The accommodation provider is responsible for implementation and collection.
