The standard adult rate for hotels, hotel-like accommodation and health resorts is CHF 4.50 per person per night, including the St.Gallen-Bodensee Mobility Ticket. A reduced CHF 3.50 rate applies to hostels, holiday apartments, rooms, apartments, group accommodation and campsites.
Exempt are children and young people under 16; people staying free of charge in the household of a resident or weekly resident of the municipality; visitors staying at least three weeks for work, vocational training or school; people present for a public-law duty such as military service; and patients of hospitals, sanatoria, health resorts and similar facilities. Children aged 0–15.99 do not pay the tourist tax.
Paid short-term accommodation is generally subject to the tourist tax. Accommodation providers in St. Gallen must charge the guest and remit the collected tax monthly to St.Gallen-Bodensee Tourism. For Airbnb bookings made from 14 July 2025, Airbnb automatically collects and settles the tourist tax; the host does not remit it separately through the local system.
